Matters of Prayer

I can't believe that I missed February altogether! No excuses, I promise to write at least once a month from now on.

There are three item that I would like to call upon my readers, and particularly my fellow full-time RVers to pray about.

Item one:     Last summer, my friend Sandy Rexrode proposed one evening that we who were part of the Adventureland Christian group should resolve to select a particular day and time each week, and turn to God in prayer wherever we are, and pray for one another, during the months that we are apart.

I think that this is a good idea. However, like many such good ideas, the problem is that of selecting a day that is agreeable to everyone. Because of this, the idea didn’t get anywhere at the time.

After several weeks of thinking about this, and perhaps a measure of divine inspiration, I had an idea. There is one time during the week, give or take an hour or two when we are usually doing the same thing. That is, each Sunday morning, we go to Church.

So, let us all, from this day henceforth, while we are going to Church, during Church (for those silent prayer times that most of our congregations have), or when we are going from Church (or even perhaps at all three of those times), let us resolve to pray for one another.

Item two:     Unless you spend your winter in the Rio Grande valley, you are probable not fully aware of the fact that there is a very real war going on down here, just across the border. The government of Mexico is engaged in a war with the drug cartels down here, who, until recent years, pretty much did whatever they wanted with little interference from anyone. President Calderone has resolved to stop them, and they are fighting back. The Mexican authorities, particularly the local police are often outgunned by the drug armies, who have the finest weapons that their drug profits can buy.

I have seen some reference to this war in the national news, but most reports fail to convey the magnitude of the battle. People are being killed down here literally every day! Recently one of the victims was an American missionary who, along with her husband had ministered in Mexico for about forty-two years. Most Mexicans say that they don’t dare leave their houses at night.

Some local Christians along with some of us snowbirds are fighting back with the world’s most powerful weapon; prayer! One group recently organized what they called a “worship event” to praise God, and pray about the violence and bloodshed across the border. I was unable to attend, so I don’t know how that went.

On March 20 they are organizing a caravan of motor vehicles, to caravan around the valley as a demonstration against the Mexican drug war We will be gone from the valley then, but if anyone reading this will be here and wants to be a part of this, email islandofpraise@yahoo.com for details.

Whatever you do, pray daily for this terrible situation!

Item three:     In recent days God has been speaking to my heart about organizing a prayer retreat. What I have in mind is a simple kind of event that emphasizes prayer more than program. The idea I have is for several people to meet in a beautiful natural setting with a minimum of speakers, and just go off by oneself with only your Bible and your lunch (if you are so inclined) and just spend some quality time with the Holy Spirit.

My greatest fear in trying to organize such an event is: “what if we gave a prayer retreat and nobody came.” So I would really like to know if anyone has any interest before I try to do anything of this nature.

I know of a location that would be perfect for this. There is a new RV park in a beautiful spot in the Missouri Ozarks, just about two miles from where I first met the Lord.

Cost is a concern as well, and I would like to keep it down as much as possible. Anyway, let me know what you think, and pray about this too.

Keep on praying about these and other matters.

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.”
(James 5:16, NLT)

Thanks for sharing this moment with me today.
