In the November-December issue of
Prayer Connect magazine I was
introduced to a very interesting term: “yet-to-be-followers of Christ.” The meaning
of the term is, I hope, obvious. It refers to folks who will in the future
become followers of our Lord Jesus, but have not done so yet. The idea that was
being put forth in this term is that there are many who have not yet decided to
follow Christ, but is implied that more are turning to Him every day.
And if that were not enough, I went
to church the next Sunday and there was a young man who was baptized into the
faith, having made this all important decision for himself. He was about the
same age as I was when I came to Christ, and after the service was over I shared
with him how that I had asked the Lord into my life when I was twelve years
old, and how that event in my life had sustained me through the ups and downs
of the following fifty-plus years. I admonished him to always keep the memory
of this time in his heart.
What I was reminded of through
all of this is that the Holy Spirit is still at work in this world, drawing
many to our Savior every single hour of every single day.
It is easy to get caught up in
the bad news about how bad our world is with all the horrible things that are
happening all around us. Sometimes it seems (to me, at least) that the people of our world are involved in a wholesale turning away from Christ. It is easy for me to forget in times like these that the
Good News is still being proclaimed and that our God is at work in our world. Not only is He directing history, but He is still
actively calling people unto Himself, and that the work of His redemption is
ongoing all around us always.
All praise be to our Lord, Jesus
Christ who is the Good News.
Thanks for sharing this moment
with me today.
